Chaeyeon Kang강채연

Painting, printmaking and biomaterials

Based in London and Seoul

Chaeyeon Kang

Chaeyeon Kang works in the space between image and matter, the real and the virtual. Across painting, printmaking, image transfer and biomaterials, she looks at what happens to a digital image when it passes through a physical process: layered, transferred, stained and worked by hand, it becomes a surface that recalls skin, tissue, eroded ground or an unfamiliar landscape.

Her recent work draws on medical imagery, imagined anatomies and her own experience of the body, including illness, hormonal change and recovery. She treats the body not as a fixed image but as something that shifts through cycles of discomfort, resilience, decay and renewal. Rather than separating the organic from the artificial or the physical from the digital, she lets them overlap, proposing a third surface that belongs entirely to neither. She completed an MA in Contemporary Art Practice at the Royal College of Art, London, after a BFA in Fine Art at the Korea National University of Arts, Seoul. Her work is in the collection of the Seoul Museum of Art. She is based between London and Seoul.
